Project Title: Energy Systems and Technology Research Laboratory (ESTRL)

Project Owner: Dean, School of Engineering, Kathmandu University.
Project Objectives:
- To engage in research, development and innovation of methods and technology related to the field of energy including indoor thermal comfort and IAQ, energy efficient and sustainable buildings, clean transportation and pollution control, clean cooking.
- To foster interdisciplinary research and development within the university with collaboration of national and international academia and industry to provide solutions to energy related problems.
- To engage in knowledge transfer to relevant section of the society through workshops, seminars, skill development trainings.
- To support various academics of Kathmandu University by offering supervision to the graduate students providing them research opportunities.
- To work as Think Tank in energy sector and advice government of Nepal in energy related policy through evidence-based research.
Expected Outcomes:
1. Immediate Outcomes:
- National Standard for thermal comfort standard defined for Nepal
- Policy and guideline for inclusion of Energy efficient building technology in national building code of Nepal
- 1 PhD and 2 MS study under the working domain in ESTRL and supervise at least 15 undergraduate and graduate research works at KU under ESTRL focus area.
- Publication of at least 5 peer reviewed research articles and capacity development of at least 3 researchers.
2. Long term effects and Outcomes.
- Establishment of International standard “Learning Center-cum Research Laboratory”
- National and international collaboration resulting into global hub for energy research
- Emerge as a centre of excellence and support government of Nepal in the role of Think Tank.
